The Teleline Isolator provides high voltage protection and isolation from lightning and Ground Potential Rise (GPR) events when copper communication lines are brought into a substation. It accommodates all types of communication services allowing the data to seamless go through while blocking high voltage and current surges. This unique combination of safety, reliability, and service is achieved by the use of two distinct technologies; passive and active.

An active optical isolation design uses fiber-optic couplers that facilitate bi-directional communications for both voice and switching information. Passive technology uses Positron’s state of the art high voltage encapsulated isolation transformers for two or four wire circuits. The technology is specifically designed for their respective service applications while providing an isolation protection level of 90 kV lightning surge and 50 kV rms (70 kV peak) fault.

The Teleline isolator breaks the copper continuity of the telephone line as it enters a high voltage environment, eliminating the conductive bridge between the Central Office (CO) and the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) at the high voltage location. The signals and data are delivered to the CPE location and are completely isolated from the substation ground.

Teleline Isolator equipment is modular in design (all in a plug-in PCBs) permiting the selection of only those services needed for particular applications.

IEEE 387 recommendation: The use of a lighting arrestor is recommended between the CO incoming cable and a Teleline Isolator shelf.
