TeleLite Fiber Optic Isolator

For more than 10 years, TeleLite has been the only fully NEBS Level 3 certified optical transport system for Hybrid Copper/Fiber Isolation schemes for electric supply locations where the GPR exceeds 17kV, per IEEE Standard 487. TeleLite isolates and protects telecommunications network facilities and personnel from the hazardous voltages associated with Ground Potential Rise (GPR) events caused by a power fault on the electric grid

TeleLite separates the differing electrical ground potentials of the substation and ground potential of the broader telecommunications network by breaking the continuity of an incoming copper cable to a power substation using a relatively short length of all-dielectric optical fiber with electrical-to-optical conversion equipment at each end.

Per IEEE Standard 487, the equipment that interfaces with the telecommunications copper network is referred to as a Copper/Fiber Junction, or CFJ. The unit that reconverts optical signaling back to an electrical signal for termination at the customer’s facility is referred to as an Optical Electrical Interface, or OEI.

Multi-Card Shelves

The multi-card TeleLite shelves house the plug-in optical service isolation cards and system power supplies. The shelves meet NEBS Level 3 requirements and are available in two-card, three-card, and seven-card configurations. Each shelf has a distinctive form factor enabling TeleLite to be installed almost anywhere.

Optical Service Modules

Each TeleLite Optical Service Module is manufactured with 100% Surface Mount Technology to ensure the highest reliability with the lowest possible power requirements while meeting all the criteria for NEBS Level 3 quality.

Supported circuit-types Include

  • DDS (Single)
  • Ethernet (Quad)
  • T1 Signaling (Single, Dual)
  • POTS (Single, Dual, Quad)
  • Protective relaying (Single, Dual)
  • Adtran DDS Total Reach (Single)

TeleLite Preconfigured HVI Backboard or Cabinet Assemblies

Whether a backboard or cabinet assembly, all components of the HVI are positioned to maximize the effectiveness of the various equipment based on experience and published IEEE standard 487. For a small premium over a modular build-up approach, you will achieve a High Voltage Interface where all aspects of the equipment are situated efficiently for maximum performance. The Positron assemblies bring the benefit of uniformity to the HVI, removing the guesswork often resorted to when creating an HVI with a modular build-up.

In addition to Optical Electrical Interface (OEI) backboards and cabinet assemblies, there are two types of Copper Fiber Junction, or CFJ: “300-volt Point CFJ” and “ZOI CFJ”. A 300-volt Point CFJ is located at the 300-volt point of the GPR contour of a power substation and is grounded at that location. Per IEEE Standard 487, a ZOI CFJ is located inside the substation’s GPR ZOI (Zone of Influence) and cannot be grounded. GRP values can be as high as 17kV where a ZOI CFJ can be placed. A ZOI CFJ must be contained inside an all-dielectric housing, such as a fiberglass cabinet or pedestal. All equipment installed inside a ZOI CFJ floats at remote ground potential, meaning there can be a substantial difference between the electrical potential of the installed equipment and the ground potential inside the ZOI of the substation.

Positron provides the industry’s only Hybrid Fiber Isolation scheme with ZOI CFJ assemblies specially designed for that electrically inhospitable environment.
